The European Youth Go Championship (EYGC) has run since 1996, bringing together young Go players from EGF member federations across Europe each year. The 2027 edition is organized by the Serbian Go Federation in Belgrade, under the European Go Federation.

Open to nationals of EGF member federations. Age category follows the standard EGF birth-year rule, applied against 2027:

Players born before 2006 are not eligible for this championship's youth categories. The oldest division is U21 rather than U20 — see the GLOBIS Cup note below for why.

EYGC 2027 is expected to serve as Europe's qualification event for theGLOBIS Cup, an international youth Go competition organized by the Nihon Ki-in (Japan's national Go organization) and held in Tokyo. At recent editions, the winner of the championship's oldest age division has gone on to represent Europe at the Cup, with organizers covering the winner's accommodation and meals, subsidizing part of the airfare, and — if the winner is a minor — covering accommodation and meals for one accompanying adult.

Following the same pattern as the 2026 edition, EYGC 2027's oldest category is U21 rather than U20 (see the table above) — specifically to match GLOBIS Cup eligibility. The qualification terms themselves (travel/accommodation support, deadlines) are still indicative until the organizers confirm them for 2027.

Pairing system

McMahon, 6 rounds. In the top group, rounds 1–2 typically use "split and slip" pairing by rating (e.g. seed 1 vs. 9, 2 vs. 10, …) with automatic color alternation.

Ruleset & scoring

Japanese rules, under EGF Tournament Rules regulations. Exact komi for 2027 will be published alongside the rest of the confirmed rules.

Time control

Typically one of: 60 minutes main time with 3×30 seconds Japanese byoyomi, or Fischer time at 45 minutes plus a 15-second increment per move.

Tie-breaks

Applied in order until a tie is broken:

1. McMahon points
2. SOS (sum of opponents' scores)
3. SOSOS (sum of opponents' SOS)
4. Direct confrontation result
5. Drawing of lots

Conduct during play

• Electronic devices are prohibited in the playing hall
• Photography is typically restricted to the first 5 minutes of each round
• Top boards are restricted to players and referees only
• Players are expected to be seated 5 minutes before the round starts
• Resignation is signaled by placing two stones of the same color on the board simultaneously

Disputes & appeals

Disputes go to the round's referees first. A written complaint can be submitted within 30 minutes to an Appeals Committee (typically 3 members plus 2 reserves), which decides within 30 minutes.

The Serbian Go Federation has promoted Go in Serbia since 1974 — national championships, teaching programs, and international exchanges — under the umbrella of the European Go Federation.
